FAQs about Personal Training

We have answered some of the common questions patients might have when considering personal training.
Personal Training is the application of exercise techniques to rehabilitate a wide range of injuries, whether they are sports related or posture related. This technique is not limited to the treatment of injuries. The practitioner applies the techniques holistically to the needs of the client, whether the needs are purely weight loss or improved tone. This means the client can achieve their goal without compromising the health of other areas.

The benefits of working with a personal trainer is one of the fastest, easiest, most successful ways to improve your health and fitness. Personal trainers are used by people of all fitness, age and economic levels to help make lifestyle changes those people couldn’t achieve by themselves.

In addition to fitness, your personal trainer can work with your physician, physical therapist or other health care provider to plan a safe, efficient program that will speed your recovery or enable you to reach your health goals.

The Personal Trainer will first discuss with you in detail what you want to achieve, how to achieve your goals and what time frame. He will then assess your current health and physical ability by performing an examination identifying weaknesses, postural strength, range of motion and any history that may contraindicate particular exercises.

A tailor made program will then be provided and performed under strict supervision. Home exercises and stretches will be provided for the client to practice away from the clinic.

Each training session is individualised and focuses around your goals and needs. A personal training session will normally last for one hour. This will follow along the lines of a brief warm-up followed by your main training programme where you will focus on your goals using cardiovascular, strength or flexibility exercises. Finally there will be a cool down or relaxation period. Any programme may vary from one session to the next according to the clients’ needs and progress.
Training session times vary depending on the individual and their training programme. The session can last 30, 45 or 60 minutes and will be paced at your ability level. On average, most patients have three sessions a week.
