Why December Takes a Toll on Your Body and Mind
It’s that time of year again — the season of lists, logistics, last-minute shopping, and trying to remember where on earth you hid the kids’ presents back in October. In the Mullan household it’s full-on chaos: two birthdays around Christmas and a wedding anniversary soon after (not the best planned I know) means that if we haven’t prepped from mid-November, the closer we get to Christmas, the higher my blood pressure goes.

The Christmas Chaos: When Everyone Else Comes First
December becomes a sprinting marathon.
We’re running around making sure everyone else is sorted: the kids’ costumes for the school play, the school Christmas Fayre I HAVE to go to because Remy has a song to sing (touché school, touché). Honestly, I’d genuinely rather pay the £100 I’m likely to spend not to go — and not have all that stuff clutter my house or get the kids as high on sweets as……..well……..my kids on sweets (its not a pretty sight). Then there’s still the food shop, and the Secret Santa gift we absolutely didn’t forget until the morning of (thank Santa it’s all secret!).
Why Your Health Falls to the Bottom of the List
And somewhere in the middle of all that?
You.
Yep — you’re 100% at the bottom of the list… if you even make the list at all.

Common Aches and Pains We See at Active Health Clinics
Every Christmas, we see the same pattern at Active Health Clinics: people push their own health to the side because “I’ll sort it in January” feels like a reasonable plan. But those little warning signs — the stiff neck that’s getting tighter, that low back pain that now shows up when you simply look at a chair, the headaches that mysteriously appear the moment you try to relax — they don’t go away just because it’s Christmas.

Why Your Body Needs You More at This Time of Year
In fact, this is exactly the time of year when your body needs you on side.
You’ve got more to carry, more to juggle, more to organise, and probably less sleep, less movement, and fewer moments to just breathe. It’s the perfect recipe for your back, neck, or shoulders to go on strike at the most inconvenient moment. (Usually Christmas Eve, somewhere between assembling toys and peeling potatoes.)
A Festive Reminder to Look After Yourself
So here’s your festive reminder:
🎄 Don’t put yourself on the shelf.
🎄 Don’t ignore the twinges.
🎄 Don’t wait until you’re forced to stop.
Being proactive isn’t selfish — it’s sensible. The truth is, when you look after yourself, everything else becomes easier. You move better, sleep better, cope better, and actually enjoy the chaos (and the mince pies) more.

Don’t Wait Until January to Address Pain
And if you’re already thinking, “I just need to get through Christmas first…” that’s your sign that your body is overdue some attention.
At Active Health Clinics, this is actually one of the best times to get ahead of things. Whether it’s a tune-up before the big day, keeping that back niggle from becoming a Boxing Day disaster, or simply carving out 30 minutes that are genuinely just for you — we’ve got you.

How Active Health Clinics Helps You Stay Pain-Free
We won’t plaster your face on a “New Year, New You” poster, and we won’t lecture you for leaving it too long. We’ll just help you feel better, move better, and get through Christmas without feeling like you’ve been gift-wrapped by an octopus.
Put Yourself Back on the List This December
So this December, put yourself on the list.
Near the top.
And get your appointment booked before things get even busier.**
Because you deserve to feel good — not just in January, but right now.
